WHAT IS DRAGON SPARK?

Dragon Spark is a role-playing game where the players take on many roles. The primary role is that of a Dragon Spark, a mote of divine essence, watching over and influencing mortals. This spark is unique and tied to each player. The players will also take on the roles of the mortals within the story, giving them a chance to play not as one, but several characters.

Each mortal in the game is not tied to one player specifically, but shared. It is worth noting that the Dragon Sparks are at no time possessing these mortals, but giving them their favour, cheering for them from beyond the veil. The Sparks do not control their actions in the fiction, it is you, the player, who plays as that mortal.

One player will take on the role of the Great Chronicler. The GC is responsible for setting the stage for which the other players will play and designing the challenges they will face. Like the players, they will shape the actions of mortals in the story, but the GC’s primary role is to control the Void and its machinations. Playing as the GC does, at times, put you in an adversarial role against the other players.

However, this game is not a board game with winners and losers. This game is telling the story of the chosen champions of the Sundered Dragons. As the Great Chronicler, you are facilitating story. And what is a story without challenges and change?

ANY WORLD. ANY TIME

You, the players, are Dragon Sparks, divine essence of the Great Dragons, now sundered and sealed. You and your friends will create a world and its champions. As Sparks, you will guide the fates of these champions by reaching across the Ephemeral, a ghost like plane, and investing them with your divine power. The story of these champions can take place anytime, anywhere.

VIBE

Dragon Spark, by default, is a bright and light-hearted game. Darkness threatens your champions and their world, but it is hope, joy and love that keep your heart lit. Give your heroes something to fight for.

Additionally, even the agents of the void are not a grim and horrific entities. They wield dark power and act selfishly, but are generally cartoonish, perhaps having wild and silly personalities or outlandish and garish personal FX.

INSPIRATIONAL WORKS

This game is a giant love letter to Akira Toriyama’s work and the JRPG video game scene. I set out to try and capture the feeling of those games, with rising power levels, mystic techniques and masters, dinosaurs and robots, and condense it into a tactical battle game.

BETA TEST
